The Economic Performance of a CUSUM Control Chart for Monitoring Short Production Runs
نویسندگان
چکیده
At the start of a production run, the parameters of the distribution of a quality characteristic are frequently unknown. If the quality characteristic should by monitored on-line by means of a control chart and the production run length is too short, then it is impossible to get a sufficient Phase I number of samples allowing for the correct estimation of parameters and the evaluation of the chart’s tentative limits. To overcome this problem, in this paper the economic design of a CUSUM t control chart that is able to monitor short production runs without the need of Phase I samples is proposed. A numerical analysis aimed at comparing the economic performance of the CUSUM t chart vs. the CUSUM X chart with known parameters has been performed on a benchmark of scenarios available from literature. The obtained results show that the expected economic loss associated to the implementation of the CUSUM t chart is quite negligible with respect to the control chart with known parameters. An illustrative example is provided to show the CUSUM t chart’s implementation.

The Cusum Chart for Monitoring Short Production Runs
This paper develops a model for the analysis and design of a CUSUM chart for monitoring the process mean in short production runs and proposes statistical measures of performance that are appropriate when the process is not operating indefinitely. The model can be used to evaluate the performance of the CUSUM scheme for any given set of chart parameters and thus allows comparisons with Shewhart...
متن کاملA risk adjusted self-starting Bernoulli CUSUM control chart with dynamic probability control limits
Usually, in monitoring schemes the nominal value of the process parameter is assumed known. However, this assumption is violated owing to costly sampling and lack of data particularly in healthcare systems. On the other hand, applying a fixed control limit for the risk-adjusted Bernoulli chart causes to a variable in-control average run length performance for patient populations with dissimilar...
متن کاملA Self-starting Control Chart for Simultaneous Monitoring of Mean and Variance of Simple Linear Profiles
In many processes in real practice at the start-up stages the process parameters are not known a priori and there are no initial samples or data for executing Phase I monitoring and estimating the process parameters. In addition, the practitioners are interested in using one control chart instead of two or more for monitoring location and variability of processes. In this paper, we consider a s...
متن کاملMonitoring Lognormal Reliability Data in a Two-Stage Process Using Accelerated Failure Time Model
The reliability data is getting used to monitor and improve the quality of products or services. Nowadays, most of products or services are the results of processes with dependent stages referred to as multi-stage process. In these processes, the quality characteristics are affected by the quality characteristics in the previous stages, called as cascade property. In some cases, it is not possi...
متن کاملA two-sided Bernoulli-based CUSUM control chart with autocorrelated observations
Usually, in monitoring a proportion p < /em>, the binary observations are considered independent; however, in many real cases, there is a continuous stream of autocorrelated binary observations in which a two-state Markov chain model is applied with first-order dependence. On the other hand, the Bernoulli CUSUM control chart which is not robust to autocorrelation can be applied two-sided co...
